Edukacja Krytyczna

We act

Our strategic operational perspective is a big change of small worlds. We appreciate and implement reflection on the realized actions and their results addressed to young people – children and youth. We have proven working methods (CALe, working with socially excluded and at-risk youth, streetworking, various fields of pedagogy, social consultations, neighborhood festivals and events, animation). All implemented projects are based on a thorough analysis of needs and evaluation. Assessment of the results is particularly important in educational and social activities. That is why we have been trusted by such organizations and entities as: Médecins du Monde France, UNICEF, Foundation for the Development of the Education System, City of Wrocław, Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, FIO, Minister of Culture and National Heritage.

The design and program offer of SEK is created by people – experts, specialists in the fields of pedagogy, urban planning, psychology, anthropology, social animation, which is why we can and are able to respond to the various needs of children and youth. We create an educational space that is accessible and open, because all the kidstories, hisstories and herstories matter to us.

We are the originators and creators of many pedagogical and educational concepts, such as outdoor pedagogy, peer tutoring, participatory research involving children, reading the city.

Projects

We have the power of momentum and the sense of identity with the organization. Because we focus on trust and cooperation, we have always allowed team members to be independent, and our strategic perspective is change.

Circus group

The SEK Circus Group was founded and is run by young people at the Association of Critical Education in Wrocław. At 81 Traugutta Street, New Meadows Center we have created a training space where young people of different backgrounds and skills practice, collaborate and educate each other according to the peer-to-peer education methodology, which we support, research and develop as an association. This approach distinguishes us and provides amazing circus shows performed by children and teenagers that really touch people. The circus is also about traveling, for many members of the group – the first international ones in their lives. Our successes: organization of three camps in Wolimierz, participation in Brave Kids in Georgia, participation in workshops in Cyrkus Goerlitz, Salziger, Budapest and others, performance at Dziecinada. Our passion is fire shows performed by young people under 18 years of age.

Guests’ Gospel

In 2022, residents of Tarnogaj of various ages began to practice together, perfecting their skills and learning polyphonic singing. The project was created as a neighborhood initiative, originally supported by the neighborhood council, now implemented by SEK. About 50 people participated in the project, taking part in the weekend workshops and two hour rehearsals. The group performed at the Christmas meeting of the Tarnogaj neighborhood council in 2022, in the parish church of St. Stephen in Wrocław and in CAT in March 2023, and in CAL Ołtaszyn on April 16. Thanks to the time and effort devoted to practice, there was a chance to get to know each other better and feel the musical energy among adults, teenagers, children and seniors. Classes and performances were conducted by Anna Maria Mbayo, Karolina Pernal and Rafał Rudawski.

Cluster Hubska 7

Cluster Hubska 7 is an intercultural integration space open to all people with migration experiences coming to Lower Silesia. Together, we create a safe place for both newcomers and permanent residents of the region. We build a local, intercultural community based on empathy, trust and cooperation, despite language differences, views, and values that separate us. We created the Cluster in May 2022 in response to the needs of war refugees fleeing to Poland because of Russia’s brutal military aggression against Ukraine.

Combo Women

During six busy weeks, between June 2022 and July 2022, a series of meetings, workshops, and animation activities for women, in particular war refugee mothers, took place. A community of female strength and support has been built. In mutual closeness, based on relationships and support, the participants regained their inner balance and made friends in their new place of residence. The program was supplemented with intensive Polish language lessons and familiarizing oneself with the city. Based on their own knowledge, skills, competences and experience, the participants created their own initiatives and group projects: class animations with children, workshops, consulting meetings for entrepreneurs and businesswoman, culinary workshops, hairdressing and cosmetic services. The project is concluded, but the strength of the community and built relationships remain (including those between children who, parallel to their participating mothers, created their own space for fun and development).

Art gardens

Harmony, balance, peace, and security – these are the characteristics traditionally ascribed to a garden. This motif has been present in art for ages, invariably inspiring artists. The concept of a garden is permanently inscribed in the history of literary and artistic traditions. For 8 years, we have been implementing projects in rural areas. We are friends with 12 schools in Lower Silesia. We know their needs and challenges they face. The main goal of our project was to create school Art Gardens, which would become an inspiration for independent exploration and artistic activities of rural school students in Lower Silesia. It’s a comprehensive program in the field of cultural education inspired by the theme of a garden. In our activities, we employed such artistic pursuits as: literature, theater, visual arts. In each of the three villages, the project culminated with performative activities and exhibitions in the Art Gardens. Culture inclusion through a real change of the countryside landscape is our goal!

Monuments of technology of the Lower Silesian Coal Basin

The project Monuments of technology of the Lower Silesian Coal Basin was implemented by the Association of Critical Education in cooperation with the Old Mine Science and Art Center in Wałbrzych. We organized 4 volunteer camps. Each lasted four days, during which we showed the participants the unique mining monuments of the region. Thanks to field trips, photography workshops and activities conducted in the Old Mine, an interactive map of mining heritage trails was created.

Open Neighborhoods

The Open Neighborhoods project has a systemic nature and aims to support intercultural dialogue in a wide geographical spectrum of Wrocław, with a particular emphasis on neighborhoods inhabited by statistically the largest number of migrants, and – above all – refugees from Ukraine who came to the city after Russian attack on their homeland. The project is based on the idea of “Wrocław – the meeting place” combined with an urban concept of open neighborhoods that have been implemented by the Strategy Office for several years. The assumption that integration of inhabitants should take place at the local level is the basis for planning activities. Especially in the context of the fact that migrants have been choosing apartments on the outskirts of the city for years (for economic reasons).
