Youth policy of the city of Warsaw

In 2019, the partner city of Wrocław, Breda, gifted us one of the chairs they use in consultations with young people as an inspiration and aid in our activities. Hania Achremowicz adapted this idea by creating a chair notebook, which we used during the public consultations in Warsaw, consulting the youth policy of the City of Warsaw.

Research projects and publications related to urban narratives and revitalization

Reading the city: research and animation in space

A publication summarizing and developing
the methodological aspects of the research and animation project implemented in six selected cities of Lower Silesia as part of the Lower Silesian Platform ECC 2016+.

Art of My Street

The “Art of My Street” project was aimed at examining the relationship between the cultural activities of NGOs and individual artists, informal collectives and the policy of
local authorities in areas of the highest risk of exclusion and the living environment of the inhabitants.

A fascinating cognitive journey through Polish cities in search of traces of street art bombarded our minds with a wealth of messages. The project is implemented in
cooperation with the Center for Sustainable Development of the Wrocław Community of
the University of Wrocław.

“Life after life of tenement houses: a story about the revitalization of Nadodrze”, author Kamila Kamińska

The title of the book has two parts: it refers to the “tenement houses” and the process of “revitalization”. Individual chapters are introduced by unusual narrators – pre-war residential buildings. The information provided by them is reliable – it comes from construction archives and historical books. The tenement houses will tell us their stories and the stories of their inhabitants, guests and the surrounding area. However, this book is not only a story about the tenement houses of Przedmieście Odrzańskie, it is also a presentation of a model of a learning city, one which Wrocław must become, especially this part of it that is undergoing revitalization. The extreme emotion that this term evokes only stimulate learning. Conflict is a great educational opportunity, and in some perspectives (Mezirow, Kaminska) – a necessary impulse for development.

“Urban wars: educational discourses of space”, edited by Kamila Kamińska

The authors of the book were guided by the search for discourses present in the urban space, often drowned out by dominant narratives. The book contains, among others, articles: by Katarzyna Kokot “The physically disabled and architecture, or a sketch about handicaps in space”, by Anna Maria Kucharska “Hide the unbelievers’ – religious minorities in the urban landscape of Wrocław”, and by Małgorzata Prokosz “Areas of marginalization of youth in a big city”.

Diagnosis related to the institutional development of the Association for Critical Education

K. Kamińska, From children's self- government toparliaments of the world – towards a model City of Children, “City, Memory, and Future” 2018, scientific article

Outlining the postulates regarding the model City of Children – including children in decision-making processes on matters that concern them. The authors present Janusz Korczak’s concept of self government as a model example of good practices. At the same time, they emphasize the vision of a child as competent and able to take responsibility. Referring to the practical examples from the field of school self- governing, they draw conclusions and form postulates, pointing to foreign examples and their own experiences. Including children in the democratic process is a challenge in the field of education – educating citizens who are aware of their rights and willing to participate in building the city is the actual goal of the City of Children.
